Forecasting the Probabilities and Awareness about Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome in adolescent females: A small sample size Survey

Females of reproductive age are generally found vulnerable for Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). It is a metabolic and endocrine disorder associated with clinical complications like diabetes, hypertension, depression etc. The aim of this study was to evaluate the probabilities and awareness of females about PCOS in Maharashtra State (India).

A descriptive, cross-sectional study that was designed through an online survey in females of Maharashtra state. The study was carried out through a validated questionnaire and 620 females participated in the study. The result disclosed the inadequate knowledge about PCOS amongst different aged females ranging 12 years to 45 years old. 87.7 % females from overall respondents were of age group 12 years to 30 years. More than half i.e. approximately 52 % of participants reported the positive characteristics and 86% were unaware about Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Additional lifestyle parameters like lifestyle, marital status etc. also studied to relate the consequence of the syndrome.

The result of this study concluded that, the females have insufficient knowledge of PCOS and has probabilities for PCOS suffering and its complications. There is an urgent need to enhance the knowledge and perception in female population by educating them using various sources.
